La prestigiosa institución académica CUNY in the Heights, ubicada en la comunidad de Inwood NY, celebro su tradicional actividad en honor al mes de la Herencia Dominicana, donde participaron líderes de la comunidad, estudiantes y relacionados a la institución. El gran encuentro fue realizado en el local de la institución ubicado en el 5030 Broadway en Inwood -Manhattan.
CUNY in the Heights, reconoció a cuatro meritorios quisqueyanos por sus aportes en diferentes áreas en favor de la comunidad, y considerándolos ejemplo a seguir.
El gran evento en honor a la comunidad Dominicana en los Estados Unidos, fue conducido por Seny Taveras, J.D Directora Ejecutiva de CUNY in the Heights. Los reconocidos por el plantel académico fueron: La periodista Isolda Peguero, por sus 30 años de carrera, empresario progresista Manuel de la Cruz, líder comunitario y académico Juan Ignacio Rosa, y la directora de la escuela Gregorio Luperón profesora Yecenia Cardoza.
Seny Taveras, destaco las cualidades y los méritos de cada uno de los homenajeados. Además hizo mención de los objetivos de la institución, y de las actividades que realiza CUNY in the Heights, para mantenerse conectada con todas las comunidades de la zona.
La emotiva tarde Dominicana conto con la participación de los líderes electos de la comunidad, como son los dominicanos: Ydanis Rodríguez, concejal del distrito 10, la senadora estatal Marisol Alcántara, y la asambleísta Carmen de la Rosa. Todos ellos destacaron los avances y progresos de los inmigrantes dominicanos en los Estados Unidos, empezando por dominicano Juan Rodríguez, primer inmigrante que se estableció en esta ciudad de New York.
Durante el evento también se le hizo una mención especial al destacado profesor Juan Villar, principal de la reconocida escuela intermedia George Washington por sus grandes avances y compromisos en favor de la juventud escolar.
La directora Seny Taveras, agradeció al equipo de trabajo CUNY in the Heights por su dedicación y entrega a los eventos y actividades de la institución. Además dio las gracias a las instituciones que hicieron posible el evento en honor a la comunidad Dominicana. También menciono la participación del Consulado Dominicano en New York en nombre del Lic. Carlos Castillo, quien fue representado por la vice cónsul Sobeida Duran entre otras instituciones comunitarias.
Seny Taveras, destaco la participación de todos los invitados y líderes comunitarios que asistieron al evento, y mencionó las diferentes actividades académicas y comunitarias de la institución.
El encuentro concluyo con exitosamente con la participación del grupo de baile típico de la institución Alianza Dominicana, dando una pequeña muestra de la música autóctona del país. Se disfrutó de muy buenos refrigerios al gusto de todos en un buen ambiente de relaciones e intercambios personales entre los asistentes.
